Does anyone play guitar here?

I started to learn it a bit but ya.... I SUCK!
Can anyone guide me a bit and tell me what I should start with and stuff so I have a better idea of which is the best way to learn it for a beginner... cuz most of the time, it's the first steps that are hardest and when u get a hang of it, u kinda improve really quickly...

alot of ppl just tell me to start learning chords... ok but which chord should a beginner start with? I mean in which order should someone start and progressively try harder ones?

are there any easy songs with easy chords for beginners?

I can do like G, E, C then D... which is kind of an easy pattern to practice my first chords... but then I'm kinda stuck and I dunno what's next

and I downloaded some chords from guitaryou.com and there's one thing I don't really understand when I try to read them... what's the key? sometimes I see a song that has like Key: D
what does that actually mean?

and how many strumming do I do for each of the chords? sometimes I see like lyrics & chords... and there are like 4-5 words between each chords... does that mean I only strum once? and also, how do I finger pick the chords? one of my friends played a song once and sent me the chords and all I see are like G, D, E, F...... but the way he played it was like picking each string one after another... and not just strumming...

there's lots of songs with G C E minor and D haha but they're mostly christian songs

and as for strumming goes is different for every song you just have to like sound it out when you play while sinigng the lyrics?

Hahha I've been trying to play too! I borrowed my cousin's elec guitar to play with it over summer. It wasnt as cool as I imagined it would be, maybe cuz I couldnt really play it. I'm gonna get an acoustic one and practice with that first :lol:


if the tabs are like this then it means you have to strum them all at the same time,

Have you tried www.ultimate-guitar.com? They have a lot of chords. Also, check out GuitarPro, it's a program where you can load guitar tabs and play them so you can follow the chords basically. http://www.guitar-pro.com

Yeah, I use tabs. -_-, but I haven't played for a while. Lol, kinda funny that this thread is up b/c I just picked up a guitar just a minute ago, then what do you know, there's this thread. lol

a very common beginner obstacle is the strumming. what i often suggest is that when you are trying to learn a particular song, just listen to it over and over again and try and concentrate on the guitar parts in the song.

strumming for me is not just something that i do just because.. you kind of have to "feel" the song in order to properly strum it.

and as for chords, though tricky at first, it just requires practice.

Scales are important too, in writing solos.

and the original version of this song is pretty much finger picking.. but the way this one is presented... it looks like it's all strumming...

but I rmb donna played "sum luen yu mah" before and then I got the chords from it and it was pretty much all strumming too.. but when she played it, she was finger picking instead of strumming... so I don't really get it...

you juts the the chords for the melody of the song... the fingerpicking isn't there unless she picks those chords.. but that's kind of a bad way to present it....
