i'm running a 4x8 on friday, does anyone know some tips that they can give me before i run?
like what to eat or how to prepare myself?
i can barely run a mile :sob:

uhhh...ur coach doesnt train you to run? or is this tryouts? make sure you have some starch the morning of and the night before...don't eat junk food...drink water regularly but don't chug it down...or you're going to get water cramps...
you can do sprints...800m isn't a lot of distance to cover...so you should practice your sprints...go out to a soccer field or football field and sprint from end to end...rest30 seconds in between and sprint it again...do this untill you can't walk XP although...you shouldn't make yourself that tired before the race...you've only got two days...have you been procrastinating? :lol:

saturday i ran a little bit.. i don't know how far because it was inside a gym of a church. i ran 10 laps tho.
lol i ran more than 800m yesterday but i died like 3/4 before i finished. and today i don't know how much i ran, but it wasn't as much as yesterday. i hope i don't die on my meet friday haha. 800m isn't a lot to you because you have longer legs than i do!
what kind of starch for breakfast? where do you get water cramps at?

i have long legs for my height but i'm pretty short XP 800m isn't a lot because I play soccer haha...
my sis started track as well...she's a soph and I think she's doing short distance...you're going to need to build up endurance...don't you have practice after school?
mmm i would try eating oatmeal or some sort of whole wheat cereal...long lasting fiber is good for you...raisin bran is my cereal of choice...there's cherios, honey bunches of oats, etc...you can try that instant oatmeal packet stuff its good but a lil sweet, i like to combine some of the instant unflavored oatmeal and nuke it at the same time.
you get water cramps right in your stomach if you drink too much...you'll know lol...take sips of water...don't chug...

lol i don't think it's 800m. one round around the stadium is 200m for me. so i'll be running 1600m.. that is a mile! o__o i'm gonna dieee. i'm supposed to be varsity track, but since i suck so much, i'm in the frosh/soph team. haha. and all frosh/soph are running 4x8 on friday. :'( so sad.
how about these nutri-grain bars. are they okay? and the newton figs lol.
yeah there's practice everyday after school; and they're a killer. yesterday we ran more than 2 miles. i think.. haha. iono but it was super tiring. and today we ran a little less.

rememebr to breather thru nose and not mouth...and when u run heal to toe..heal to toe....wat else?? umm get runnign shoes...start doin some runnig tomoro and wednessday to get used to it..and always stretch!..dont know any more...and go at a steady pace..not too fast..do not rush it

lol i'm doing all those you said already. i go to practice everyday. it's just that i don't have as much stamina as everyone else :sob:

when you are really working it you should be breathing through both...and exhaling most out your mouth...

nutrigrain bars are mostly sugar...fig newtons are sugar too but okey i guess...granola bars are okey...
only way to build stamina is to push yourself and run more...more and more and more...can't give up!

breathing is one of the most important thing when you run, you have to try and keep the same rhythm throughout your running course otherwise you'll find yourself running outta breath very easily...
try this breathing exercise right now:
take a very deep breath, but while inhaling, count 4 seconds, then count another 4 seconds as you exhale... the breathing should be very deep, filling up your lungs completely, but should be smooth and comfortable...
now to apply this breathing technique when you run, instead of counting seconds, you should count your steps, so you should be able to fill up your lungs as you run 4 steps, and exhale everything out as you run another 4 steps...
keep this same breathing and running tempo as you run, it should help you run longer without running outta oxygen... and if you ever find that 4 steps is too long and you still run out of breath, try reducing it to 3 steps... or 2...
just remember that using your steps to count your beat and create a breathing tempo really helps you and your body... ur legs muscles need that oxygen and if your breathing is synchronized with your running, you'll find it way easier to accomplish

i tried the breathing exercise when i was running today. but i couldn't run with rhythm still :(
well i found out today that i'm not running 4x8 anymore :D:D:D i'm running 4x2 so hopefully, i'm gonna come home alive haha.
do you know what snacks i should bring with me to the meet?

mmm it really depends on you...some people react differently to different snacks lol...but i wouldn't eat anything overly sugary right before the event...dont drink energy drinks...just water la...and your rhythm should be natural...don't try to think so hard about it, it should come to you...when i have to sprint i usually just let my body take over...on a treadmill i usually breathe to the beat my feet make...its easier on a treadmill because the rate u run is constant, or you'll end up flying off the machine :laffing: good luck annie!

yeh i only do treadmills in the winter...trails are better when its warm....softer on the knees too...

i drank some coffee in the morning.. is that good? LoL.
i didn't get to run today :sob: so sad. i was all ready for it too. my group didn't get to have a lane for the relay and the coach was like it's too bad you don't get to race. and we're like wtf??? :( boooo. and i have to train myself for a week so i'll be able to run a mile.. i'm running a mile next saturday.

I ran 3 miles the other day...like in 30 mins or so? So bad...my knees were killing me...aiy...I might just have to start swimming instead...=T

lol i could have ran longer, but i think my shoes weren't supporting my arches so i stopped .__. shouldn't you wear those knee braces if your knee hurts when you run?
i wana learn how to swim for a long period of time. would it be similar to pushing yourself to run more?

no the pain is from my meniscus...the cartilage in between the joint...the knee itself is stable...
swimming requires more energy than running because it combines aerobic and anaerobic exercise.

i didn't get to run on that day i had a meet :( stupid coach didn't put my group in. i have another meet on saturday i think. i hope i'll be able to run on that day.

nope..high skool ddin't have weekend meets or practice for any sports....i rememebr volleyball in highskool and it was only mornings!!

If you stretch before running, dont stretch your calfs too much, because that can weaken the tightening power of your muscle. And uhh.... eat alot of bananas, works well against cramp, at least, it works at me.

i don't know.. but yeah i guess i'm back in square one. i really want to go to Urbana for college and i need a high act score. i took a practice test yesterday and i only got a 22. i need at least a 28.. well the average act score is 28 to get in. if i don't get into Urbana i want to go to IIT. IIT's close to my house and i won't have to move out. since i kind of have kind of a low gpa cuz i messed up during freshman year and last semester, it's gonna be kinda hard. ahh >_>
oh yeah and i'm thinking about UCLA too.
