The ceremony was pretty cool. Damn wish I went to watch it outside. At least I could've seen Gretzky!

damn I just watched the video... the way he landed was shocking, almost cartoony (like when bleach shinigami's leave their physical body). I don't think I've been saddened and disturbed like this in a long time

woooooooooooooord. also embarrassing -- at the very beginning of the ceremony when they showed the head-of-states area and it was nearly empty. :\ unorganized much?
if anyone is watching rite now, do u think the last torch holder is terry fox's mom?
i think she should hold it over wayne
i was surprised they only had her as one of the bearers of the olympic flag. i thought, even if they didn't choose her to do the final lighting, she'd at least be one of the 4 who lit the inside cauldron. :S i guess not...
other stuff...
the vid: very disturbing. :S i mean, they purposely stopped all tv coverage when the accident happened for a reason. i'm not sure why certain news outlets were allowed to and found it necessary to replay the actual accident. :S
the ceremony: meh. beautiful imagery but i could've done without that 15-min long ballet sequence that felt more like it was 15 hours long. -___- yesyes, we are cultured blahblahblah. but *Zzzz...* and i was mighty surprised there was no shania or celine. haha kd lang killed it with 'hallelujah' though. *thumbs up*
the athletes: mmm...some of the flag bearers of individual countries were hotness. :D

They mentioned some of the guys were delayed or something?
And yes, KD Lang was awesome. The french guy at the end was not nearly as hot... I thought things like this should end with a bang? I thought the poem thing was pretty neat as well.
The chick flying around was quite the retardedness... could've done without. All in all, considering it IS indoors, I doubt you could've expected much more.
Fok86
02-14-2010, 01:15 AM
The poem was much better than I would've imagined... almost felt like the "I am Canadian" commercial
We all knew the theme of the ceremonies... all the native heritage crap that most Canadians don't cares about. Perhaps it is interesting for foreigners? Beijing just set the bar REALLY FREAKING HIGH for us to be a follow-up.
there were so many fail moments during the ceremony... the commentator being an absolute asshat saying this team and that team will not get any medals, Mr. Gretzky standing there like he was lost while the people attempted to open the airtight lock for a good minute or two, the camera zooming into Steve Nash's face and it was blatantly obvious that the smile was forced when they couldn't raise the 4th stick, no need to mention the retarded hydraulic fuck up, security not getting the hooligans to back off while the cars were going through downtown... and there's a lot more.
You'd think that with them being in the spotlight for something so incredibly massive, they would be much better organized? Perhaps if they had a tech run up on stage and open up the hatch so the 4th pillar would be able to pop up? It would've been much better than having Katrina Lemay Doan stand there like an idiot while everybody else lights the pillars, imo.
All in all, it was quite a disgrace.

They mentioned some of the guys were delayed or something?
mmm yeah...the first nations chiefs. :S i dunno if they were late cuz of political issues or traffic issues or whatnot but you'd think they or whoever was in charge of getting them there would've, at the very least, made sure they were at bc place on time.
and yesss, i liked the poetry reading! completely unexpected but i liked it. i liked the fiddlers too. not so much with the tap dancing, though. i don't think the dancers did a very good job of even TRYING to hide the fact that the tapping sounds were pre-recorded.
Unfortunately... most female bearers had THICK legs........
that's cuz most female bearers were either hockey players or skiiers. massive leg muscles required.
Beijing just set the bar REALLY FREAKING HIGH for us to be a follow-up
i think that was the biggest problem.
onto the sports! apollo anton ohno! <3<3<3 that is all. :)

Well, thats not entirely true... imo our stronger events are towards the end. I think its already been good we have this many medals so far.
i know it's easier said than done and i don't blame the athletes. i blame the gov't who gives minimal funding and then puts unrealistic pressures on its team at world events (and, in turn, gives the general public unrealistic hope. at least 30 medals total? really?). i'm sure we'll get more medals towards the end with curling, hockey & speed skating team pursuits but it would've been nice to get a few in the first few sports that canada had hyped up so badly. basically, none of our top contenders (world championship podium-standers, in fact) managed to medal in snowboarding or skiing (minus jennifer heil. and alex bilodeau wasn't a favourite going in.) yes, there will always be disappointments at the olympics but this many, this early is kinda sucky. :S
i'm sure i'm in the minority with this train of thought, though.
with that said...aw, poor patrick chan. :( kid looked so devastated and only managed to crack some smiles when he heard the crowd cheering for him. but yay for lysacek beating out plushenko! wahaha >=)
dloo86

I went to F.I.R. and Our Lady Peace ... OLP was bloody amazing! I just watched some videos on youtube for the deadmau5 concert and quite frankly I'm glad I didn't try to get in... was just a bunch of highschool kids swinging their arms around pretending that they're moshing and screaming during the entire performance.
Ps. Deadmau5 rickrolled everybody at the end of show, mad respects for that guy :hehe:

you don't expect the team in general to do very well when they could barely get by the swiss
defence is slow
minimal effort on forecheck
not physical at all (reminded me of watching a team of taylor pyatt's)
for the most part the swiss players could take down each canadian player 1 on 1 because they have much more reliable 2way players
the US uses physical players to intimidate other teams, and look where they are.. a perfect record
we have players that are similar sized to the US players, yet our guys get pushed around by smaller swiss players... see where I'm going with this? If these guys don't toughen up, finish off their checks, put the puck in net, we won't even be close to a podium finish.

^ apparently the italians & russians are up in arms about how virtue/moir didn't deserve to win and that the only reason they did was because they were on home soil and had the advantage of good crowd reactions. *rolls eyes* sore losers, much?
i'm sure crowd reactions play a little bit into the judge's minds but if we're gonna talk about that, then the russians have nobody but themselves to blame for the minimal reception they received. they're lucky they got so little backlash for those hideous (and insulting) costumes they settled with for the tribute dance. i have no idea how dressing like that can be considered respectful, much less, "paying tribute" to australian aboriginals. :S

02-23-2010, 03:26 PM
