This guide was completely made up by me, written ground up with Notepad. This is for basic song recording and composing. If theres anything you think I should add or edit, post it here.

First download and extract this in a folder on your computer then open the HTML file.

Sorry to be a pain~! i can only find the free trial version for Adobe Audition. Is there anywhere/anyway i can get my hands on the full version w/o the $299 pricetag? =P

btw i don't mind joinin the dai hap cheung but i'm not gona guarantee i can sing heh ... i just enjoy singing... theres a big difference :sweat:

u can save the file if u want ...

after cutting, then go back to the multitrack view. hopefully ú hv the music on track 1.
u should then record ur voice on track 2. Click on the "R" botton to the left of track2, and then click record. u should see some red waves then.


if ur mic gives too much noise, u can do the noise reduction in the edit view:

-highlight some noise only
-goto effect>...> noisereduction
-select profile
-select whole file
-then OK.

yes.... in some songs u cant even remove the vocals. I wanna know to make the music sounds better too after the vocalremove ...........

But i use to add the original music to the beginning, end and in every long break.

yes, u cant completely cut the vocals out. Good quality songs/files u can hear a little of the original voices after vocalcut/remove. Some files u cannot cut at all.

Did u do vocalremove or vocalcut? Vocalremove is better, it keeps the stereo sound

u should use adobe audition its the newer version of cooledit

I cannot really hear myself while recording... is it possible to amplify your voice without increasing the mic recording volume?

Is it possible to do the same thing for echoes as well? I noticed I can add in echoes after recording but not while recording.

If you want to hear yourself on the speakers while recording it's not the recording volume you should change. It's the output mic volume. If it's on, which it isnt for many ppl, and set to max you should be able to hear yourself pretty well. If not, just simply decrease the music volume with the V0 drag thing on the track and turn up speakers' volume.

And no you can't hear echo while recording, at least not in Audition/Cool Edit.

go to the edit track tab and then on the left there will be favorite effects and stuff...then select the whole track ctrl - A and then double click the vocal remove...or you can go up to the effects>filters>center channel extractor>vocal remove...theres a whole bunch options you can play with in there...

it will...because each amplification/attenuation process is another thing your signal path has to go through, so that means worse sound quality with each process lar ^^.

It depends on if u want the "bg" sounds to be in the "background" or more clear than the bg singing.
I usually just add more reverb to it, and increase the room size and make it sound further away than the main voice.

Hmm i would give some pieces of advice, from just what i like and what i noticed from songs!

first i think it depends on what 'nice effect' you want on your wor yum (wow i talk canto now!!)...
Then also, how many wor yum you have (one or 2-3)

firstly what i noticed (maybe i'm wrong) is that the wor yum shouln't be sung as the lead vocal, but hmm in a softer way, less modulation or expression than the lead vocals...
On another forum i listened to a guy singing his harmony exactly the same way as his lead vocals... And both vocals as loud.... It's not nice at all... it's just like a cloning voice...
Ok, then sing witha kinda softer way, more straightly (not too monotune though!!)
then the volume is usually less loud than your main vocal....

yeah your wor yum should be on another track, in order to put its own effects.

2ndly, depending on the song u sing, you can put the wor yum on both side (left and right) instead of let it in the middle with the lead vocal.
IT will sound more like chorists on the sides... And i think the wor yum should emphasize the lead vocal, and not to hide it. That's why putting it on the sides is a good idea... For that, it's a kind of 'chorus' or 'double' effect you need....=> you sing one wor yum, but with that 'double' effect, you'll sound like 2 on each side, with a very very light delay. I'm sure that you'll notice that when you listen to many songs with wor yum. If you're not sure you can do that effect in a 'poor way' (still good though =P): sing twice the same wor yum, and put one on the left, the other on the right. be very sync when you'll sing, so your left and right wor yums will match. But since you sing twice, it won't sound the same on both side (unless you are a robot) and it has a nice effect (like the 'double' effect!) - one wor yum on one track...

yah right! But if we want to improvise, it's a real exercise not to sing wrongly and it wouldn't really fit =P

you don't have to do the vocal cut first...what you do is use the multi track session which you can pick from the tab on top, then you drag one of the original songs onto one of the tracks...say track 1. Then you need to prime an empty track (track2) to Record but pushing the little red square with a 'R' in it on the left side of the track. After its primed then you can put some earphones on so the mic doesn't pick up music from speakers. Plug in your mic and then hit the record button on the bottom left of the console (the one with the red dot) and once that start you should see track 2 to turn red and start recording when you sing into the mic. This way you will hear the song in the earphones but record only your vocals which you can use to mix in later with the vocal cut. After you are done singing you can vocal cut the song and then if you try playing from the play button in the left side you should be able to hear both tracks playing simulatneously so that your vocals are heard with the background music. If you need to adjust or amplify your vocals, you double click the vocal track and it'll bring you into the single track mode. From there you can go up to effects>amplitude>amplify/fade and thare you can amplify or fade your vocal track. Hope this helps la...but if you have anymore questions you can ask here. u mean u want to make one side vocal and other side no vocals?
i dno if u mean this.. but ...
lets say u want Left side NO vocals la..
then in the edit view, press Ctrl+L. the right channel will then be grey.
Right click and choose Cut. the vocals will now only sound from the right speaker.

add a track with the original song...and another track with the bgm...and then prime a third track for your actual recording...to prime it hit that red "R" square. then i would mute your bgm track with the green "M" so you'll hear just the original music in your headphones and when you hit the record button on the bottome left (the red dot button) it'll start recording...make sure your mic is plugged in first though =P you can do multiple takes and move the yellow slider to record at certain parts...if you have more questions add me on msn and I'll try to answer la good luck =P

if you wanna sync many tracks u can choose one track to be "master" then u can automatic sync all the other tracks after that... :S

i eq my vocals with lot more bass and less lower midtones (nasal sounds) and more upper midtones (more throat ish sound) and less high ends

then i compress it to have little less highends and a lot less low ends to make it sound dry and close.

i rarely use reverbs but when i do i use a really tight close one thats barely audiable

i just downloaded Audtition 2.0 it's slightly different, but i think i am just going to test it, till it works /D

just tried, but it doesnt record my voice...
My micro works, i tested it by recording with another program...Nero wave editor and i can hear myself but when i push at MULTITRACK that "R"Button and then the red button beneath i am recording, but it doesnt register my voice.. :s anyone knows which setting went wrong?

as the words say cut is not that perfectly and it cuts away the backgroundmusic muhc more than with remove... so quality of remove is much better

Some tracks can't really have the vocals entirely removed without a huge impact on the music beats and distortion. It might work with some, and it might not work with others.

Ok im sure its me being blind as i usually am quite..but ive downloaded adobe audition 1.5 tryout and ive spent so long trying to synch and mix and its finally done..and i want to save it as an mp3...but i cant find the SAVE AS button..i can only see the SAVE SESSIOn....dont tell me that tryout version you cant save....X_X
also can anyone tell me how to download the actual adobe audition and then for me to enter a serial number [without having to pay the hefty price online] ?

im using adobe audition, so i dno CEP.
u refresh by clicking effects>refresh effects list.
sometimes u need to restart the program after refreshing

I put the karaoke version in adobe audition. And then record my own voice singing along. But when I listen, my voice is gettin faster and faster than the karaoke song :-S...Does anyone know how to fix this??

Do you have a lot of programs open? Sometimes that will cause your vocals to become out of sync.

Does it only happen when you use KTV to record? If so it maybe an issue with your computers memory.
